On Sunday, August 11th, 2024, the European Union Delegation to Malaysia hosted the highly anticipated “Our Tigers, Our Heritage” event at Zoo Negara. Held in celebration of Malaysia’s National Day, the event spotlighted the critically endangered Malayan Tigers and the vital conservation efforts dedicated to preserving their population.
The day was filled with interactive activities aimed at raising awareness about tiger conservation. Visitors enjoyed a Knowledge Hunt, where they could explore facts about tigers and other wildlife. EU diplomats, including Mr. Pekka Penttila, First Secretary to the EU Delegation, participated in the ceremonial programme, emphasizing the EU’s commitment to biodiversity and wildlife conservation in Malaysia.
The event also featured engaging exhibits, conservation-themed activities, and exclusive giveaways, including limited-edition tiger plushies, which were a big hit with attendees. The EU’s initiatives to protect Malayan Tigers were highlighted, showcasing their partnership with local organizations to promote regional conservation.
Ms. Joanna Wasiewska, First Counsellor to the EU Delegation, noted that such educational initiatives play a crucial role in the EU’s conservation strategy. “Raising awareness about the plight of the Malayan Tigers is a key step in our collective responsibility to safeguard Malaysia’s national icon,” she said.
The EU’s Tiger Trail event continues, with more activities planned at Zoo Negara on August 17th and 18th. As the EU remains committed to environmental preservation, this event was a powerful reminder of the need to protect Malaysia’s wildlife and biodiversity for future generations.
