EU Hosts "Hoops for Reefs" to Raise Awareness on Coral Conservation

The European Union held an exciting four-day event, "Hoops for Reefs," from August 15–18, 2024, at Sunway Pyramid Mall, aiming to raise awareness about the protection of Malaysia’s coral reefs. Partnering with Semporna Islands Project and Reef Check Malaysia, the event featured basketball challenges, interactive exhibitions, and family-friendly activities, including a special screening of Finding Nemo.

Ambassador Michalis Rokas, Subang MP Wong Chen, and various local influencers engaged with visitors, emphasizing the importance of coral conservation. Highlights included educational talks on the impacts of fish bombing, plastic pollution, and marine conservation efforts. Visitors also enjoyed games, giveaways, and fitness challenges, promoting a sustainable lifestyle.

The event was a resounding success, helping to spotlight the EU’s ongoing efforts to preserve Malaysia’s marine biodiversity and encouraging collective action for ocean conservation.
